SHORTLISTED FOR THE YOUNG CREATIVE AWARDS.

cats in the street issue 2.

WHAT
Create, publish and exhibit a printed and digital zine to connect with and grow TSPTR’s younger female audience using an activism-related theme.

DRIVING INSIGHTS

The hyper sexualisation of women has led to society believing they have ownership over women and their decisions.
Current efforts to address street harassment fail to enact active and purposeful change in the community.
Catcalling is a form of power play over a woman’s body as an object of sexual desire.

CONCEPT STORY

As soon as women have power, men get scared. Their ego gets hurt and they lash out. They catcall women to regain their ‘power’, to reimpose the patriarchal views of society, to feel superior once again. Women are powerful. Women are strong. Men don’t control us.

FINAL ZINE

The key purpose of this zine is to start a conversation; to create a space where women feel comfortable talking about their experiences and know that they aren’t alone; regaining their power. Being inspired by Andy Warhol, the design connotes boldness and power, it remains angry yet with a tongue in cheek slant that is relatable yet shocking, a wakeup call, inspired by TSPTR’s wit within their pieces. Society has normalised public sexual harassment to the point where women can’t or won’t come forward because it’s not taken as a serious issue. This zine gives them the chance to do that.

CREATIVE CONTENT

The creative content within allows for interaction and personability, allowing consumers to create their own Cats in the Street to unpack their experiences and be a part of the change through an exhibition featuring this work alongside fellow women of Nottingham and people in power who can enforce this change for good.

FINAL ZINE SHOW & TELL

ROUTE TO CONSUMER

An event will take place where the handmade zines from the consumer and the postcards from the first issue will be exhibited. As the first event will be held in Nottingham the local MPs will be invited to come and witness the first-hand experiences of women who fall victim to PSH to hopefully encourage change on the streets.

Start the conversation, spread the message, take back power!

It’s time to get rid of the cats in the street.

EXPERT FEEDBACK

“Your final outcome is exceptional. At a professional level and through evidencing your experimentation and evaluation of production - it’s something I can see working successfully in industry.”
